FAQ

Description

Whether you're a business trying to present a professional image to your clients, or just someone trying to organize your Christmas lists, APT Mailing Assistant will make your job easier. Make your business shine by sending invoices, advertisements, etc. using professional looking envelopes and labels printed with your business logo on your own printer. APT Mailing Assistant can catagorize your various business and personal mailing lists, yet easily merge these lists together for larger mailings. While not an address matching utility, APT Mailing Assistant will use your zip code information to print the proper postnet bar codes on envelopes and labels. The bulk mail facility sorts mailings as required by the Postal Service and provides statistics to help in bundling your mail. The group mailing facility is perfect for smaller or personal mailings such as Christmas cards, party invitations, etc.

And printing single envelopes and labels is no problem. Label sheets can be reused until all labels on a sheet have been printed. Most common label types are already included, but the custom label feature allows you to define almost any other type.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes of envelopes can I print?

You can print any size envelopes that your printer supports (see your printer properties in the Printer Setup dialog). For smaller envelopes you may want to use smaller fonts so the envelope looks properly proportioned.

What do I need in order to print my company logo as the return address on envelopes or labels?

Your company logo must exist as a Windows BMP file. Nearly all graphics programs can save a graphics image in BMP format. The image will be resized to fit in the space normally occupied by the return address. Since APT Mailing Assistant cannot mix graphics and text in the return address, make sure your logo has your address as part of the image.

Is it possible to preprint envelopes with only my company logo and no send address so I can use them away from my computer?

Yes. There are several preferences you can set to control what gets printed on an envelope of label. You can turn off the printing of the delivery address and postnet codes allowing only the return address to print. Many companies do this to save the cost of preprinting envelopes at a commercial printer.

I already have names and addresses that I want to use in another database. Is there any way your program can use them?

Most database programs can export either comma delimited text files or comma separated values (CSV) text files. These files can be imported into an existing address file or used to create new address file. For CSV files, you must know the field names of the exported fields and enter them into the Import CSV File dialog. Comma delimited text files must have the fields exported in the specific order required by Mailing Assistant (see the documentation for specific rules).

What is the difference between bulk mail and group mail?

Generating envelopes or labels to be used in a bulk mailing requires the address list to meet the requirements specified by the U.S. Postal Service. These include such things as a minimum number of pieces in the mailing, specific grouping and sorting requirements, the completing of special Postal Service forms, among many other things. For this, you get a special mailing rate for each piece in the mailing. APT Mailing Assistant can sort and group your mailing to meet Postal Service requirements and provide mailing statistics to assist in completing the proper forms. A group mailing, on the other hand, is simply printing a large number of envelopes or labels at one time with no grouping or sorting (such as creating a Christmas card mailing). In a group mailing, there are no postage discounts.

What are return envelopes?

APT Mailing Assistant lets you create return envelopes to be included in a bulk or group mailing. These envelopes are created by selecting Return Envelopes from the bulk or group menu. One envelope will be created for each address in the original mailing with the your address as the delivery address, and the return address as the original recipients address. The return envelopes will be sorted in the same sequence as the original mailing.

What are POSTNET codes?

These are the vertical bars that appear above the address on the envelope and label. The bars are an encoding of the delivery zip code and delivery point code. These are readable by post office sorting machines and reduce errors and delays in sorting your mail.

Sometimes my return address or POSTNET codes do not print on a label. Whats wrong?

Since some labels are very small, APT Mailing Assistant calculates how much information will fit on every label that it prints. It always tries to print the delivery address. Then, if there is room and the label is wide enough, the POSTNET codes are printed. Finally, if there is still room, the return address is printed.
